Man Utd ramp up transfer battle for long-term €60m target to TRANSFORM Amorim's midfield
Manchester United have opened talks over another one of Ruben Amorim’s top midfield targets as they look to ramp up their transfer business this summer.
United have only added Matheus Cunha to their first team squad so far this summer, although they are hoping to strike a deal with Brentford to sign Bryan Mbeumo in the coming days.
Along with Mbeumo and a striker, Amorim is also keen to strengthen his midfield after the departure of Christian Eriksen and reports in Italy have claimed that they are close to a transfer for Valencia star Javi Guerra.
However, while reports over Guerra’s signature have been played down by sources close to United, GOAL claim that United have joined Milan and Juventus in enquiring for Atalanta star Ederson.
Talks are said to have already been open with the player’s representatives, while Atalanta are understood to have placed a pricetag of €60 million on the Brazilian.
Ederson is also admired by the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle and Chelsea but none are anticipating making a move, with the 26-year-old hoping one of United, Juve or Milan make a formal proposal to advance negotiations.
Man Utd need outgoings before pursuing Ederson transfer
Ederson has established himself a standout midfielder in Serie A since joining Atalanta in 2022, helping his side win the Europa League in 2023 as well as earning himself three caps for the Brazil national team.
United’s interest has been well-documented for more than a year but Atalanta have always proven reluctant sellers, however they may look to cash in on Ederson as he enters the final two years of his contract.
For United, assuming they complete the signing of Mbeumo, which could cost as much as €80m, they will almost certainly require sales first before being able to finance a move for Ederson or any midfielder.
Much will depend on the futures of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony, all of whom are expected to be sold this summer, at which point United could then look to move for Ederson, indicating that talks currently are likely to only be at a preliminary stage.
