In total, the Red Devils waved goodbye to eight players, including three big names.

Who did Man Utd release on a free transfer?

Christian Eriksen was the biggest star released on a free transfer. The 33-year-old Denmark legend joined United from Brentford in the summer of 2022 and enjoyed three seasons at the club, winning an FA Cup and League Cup.

Defender Victor Lindelof was also released after eight years at Man Utd. The 30-year-old Swede has seen his game time limited in the last few seasons and he moves on having made close to 300 appearances and won the same trophies as Eriksen.

Jonny Evans opted to retire from football when his contract expired. The 37-year-old was in his second spell at the club, having rejoined as emergency cover in 2023. In total over his two spells he played 241 games for United and won a plethora of major trophies.

The other players to be released by Man Utd are lesser-known players; Hubert Graczyk, Jack Kingdon, Sam Murray, Tom Myles, James Nolan and Tom Wooster.

Tom Heaton had been expected to be released also when his contract expired on June 30 but the third choice goalkeeper ended up penning a one year extension.

United are currently overseeing something of a rebuild after enduring their worst season in over 50 years, finishing the Premier League in 15th position and trophyless.
