Man City make move for 'best in the world' to leave Barcelona STUNNED
Manchester City have enquired about Jules Kounde, who is currently locked in negotiations with Barcelona over a new contract, according to French media.
The 26-year-old is coming off a spectacular campaign with the Blaugrana. Kounde was at his very best as Barcelona won the domestic treble in Hansi Flick's first season in charge, and the Frenchman is set to be rewarded for his performances.
According to transfer insider Fabrice Hawkins, the Catalans have been in talks with Kounde over a new deal 'for several weeks,' with his current contract set to expire in 2027.
So far, however, it appears as though no agreement has been reached. Barcelona believe that Kounde is the 'best in the world in his position' and want to hand him terms that reflect this status.
Hawkins adds that 'all parties' are hoping for a positive outcome, which suggests that Kounde is keen to commit his long-term future to Barcelona, despite the club's ongoing struggles to register players.
Man City make Kounde enquiry
While Barcelona have to be mindful of financial regulations, they would be well advised to give Kounde what he wants as the France international has no shortage of admirers.
Barcelona's view that he is the 'best in the world' is evidently shared by other clubs, with Hawkins reporting that at least two rival outfits have made enquiries about Kounde this summer.
The journalist claims that Man City are among Kounde's suitors and that they are one of the clubs to have expressed an interest in the former Sevilla defender.
City, of course, are in the market for a player capable of playing at right-back as they have yet to replace former captain Kyle Walker, who recently joined promoted Burnley after a six-month loan sojourn at AC Milan.
In addition to City, another, unnamed club are also said to have enquired about Kounde. Though Hawkins hasn't been able to disclose the team's name, he described them as a 'top-tier' side.
