Marcus Rashford signing ANGERS Lamine Yamal
Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has been left furious by the club after Marcus Rashford’s loan move from Manchester United.
The Catalan side have been on the hunt for a new left winger all summer, and after missing out on Athletic Club ace Nico Williams and being priced out of a move for Liverpool’s Luis Diaz settled on the low-risk option of Rashford.
Lamine Yamal has been left disappointed by the Blaugrana over the decision to sign the England international star, El Nacional reports.
According to the Barcelona paper, the 18-year-old has told president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco that they should have informed him of their desire to move for Rashford, and asked his opinion about the move before it was completed.
Lamine, it is claimed, wants to be involved in every decision the club makes, having been handed the No.10 jersey that was once owned by Lionel Messi as well as a huge new contract.
The Spain international winger believes that Barcelona didn’t do everything in their power to sign Nico Williams, his great friend. Lamine thinks that the Blaugrana should have put more effort into that deal but did not because they were already thinking of Rashford when they were negotiating with Nico.
Fresh Lamine controversy
Lamine’s disappointment over Rashford’s signing is more about Barcelona missing out on Nico Williams rather than the Man Utd star himself. Indeed, the Englishman's arrival has generally been welcomed by the squad, who have been impressed by his physical condition.
His anger towards the president and sporting director, instead, reflects Lamine's increasingly untouchable status in the Barca squad.
This was underlined when Laporta publicly defended the player’s controversial 18th birthday celebrations, which saw the player hire people with dwarfism as the entertainment.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Laporta said: “It was a private party, and Lamine knows that from now on, everything he does will be under the spotlight and subject to scrutiny. In my view, he simply threw an 18th birthday party - and honestly, what I regret is not being there! It was an extraordinary event, everyone had a great time, and they all looked very sharp. Why did he celebrate it like that? Because they’re 18 years old!”
Even if there is tension between Lamine and the Barcelona president behind the scenes, it is very much staying there.
