Future Chelsea star? BlueCo sign FORGOTTEN former Man Utd wonderkid
BlueCo-owned Strasbourg are set to sign Legia Warsaw midfielder Maxi Oyedele after he impressed against Chelsea in the Conference League.
The Ligue 1 side, like sister club Chelsea, have focused heavily on recruiting highly-rated young players since the controversial BlueCo takeover in 2023.
Although not welcomed by supporters, Strasbourg are starting to show signs of immense promise thanks to BlueCo's decisions in the market. The Chelsea owners appointed Liam Rosenior as the Alsatians' head coach last year, and he led them to an impressive seventh place in his debut season.
Strasbourg have invested heavily in young talent, more so than they would have been able to do otherwise, and they have also received several very good players from Chelsea.
After the success of Andrey Santos and Djordje Petrovic, Strasbourg are set to obtain as many as four players from their English affiliate this summer, with Mathis Amougou and Ishe Samuels-Smith to join permanently and Mike Penders and Kendry Paez on loan.
Strasbourg sign Oyedele
Meanwhile, Strasbourg are moving to replace captain Habib Diarra, who has been sold to Sunderland for a club-record €31.5 million. According to L'Equipe, Racing are on the verge of signing Legia Warsaw midfielder Maxi Oyedele.
The 20-year-old, already a senior Poland international, was born in Salford and came through the Man Utd academy before joining Legia last year for an undisclosed fee.
Although eligible for England and Nigeria, Oyedele has only represented Poland at the international level, playing for the country of his mother's birth since the U18 level.
He is now set to join Strasbourg, who are ready to trigger his trifling €6m release clause. Oyedele impressed for Legia against Chelsea in the Conference League last term, starting both legs as the Polish giants crashed out in the quarter-finals despite winning 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.
Oyedele is capable of playing every role in the centre of the park. He has played as a holding midfielder, but also as a more attack-minded box-to-box player. Good performances for Strasbourg could potentially make him an attractive player for Chelsea due to his homegrown status.
