Fabrizio Romano CONFIRMS Chelsea interest in Ethan Nwaneri
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea are keeping tabs on the contract situation of Ethan Nwaneri at Arsenal.
The 18-year-old wonderkid - Arsenal's youngest-ever debutant - enjoyed a real breakout campaign with the Gunners last term, making 37 appearances and scoring an impressive nine goals while also providing a pair of assists.
Nwaneri has been in line for a bumper new contract for months as his current deal expires in 2026. Due to his age, Nwaneri was previously unable to sign deals that run for more than three years.
Arsenal are confident of getting the homegrown to commit his long-term future to the club, but over the past few days, reports have surfaced claiming that Nwaneri wants guarantees of game time, and that this has delayed the extension.
The North London club are keen to manage his minutes, but after his impressive 2024/25, which concluded with him helping England win the U21 European Championship, the teenager feels that he deserves regular game time.
Chelsea keeping tabs on Nwaneri
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed reports that Chelsea are interested in Nwaneri and keeping a keen eye on his contract situation.
The market guru emphasises that a deal will, of course, only be possible should no extension materialise, and he also adds that Chelsea's interest in the youngster is unrelated to the ongoing Noni Madueke situation.
The 23-year-old has now agreed personal terms with Arsenal, although the Gunners have yet to open formal talks with Chelsea. Any deal for Nwaneri would not be contingent on Arsenal getting Madueke.
However, it is true that Madueke could take valuable game time away from the prospect. The England international is expected to act as Bukayo Saka's deputy, which is the role Nwaneri assumed last term.
Arsenal see his long-term future as a No.10 or No.8, but the arrival of Madueke could see the wonderkid pushed to the fringes, with Mikel Arteta and company adopting a 'win now' mentality that is also reflected in their targeting more experienced players in the market.
