What Mikel Arteta just said that will send Arsenal fans into DREAMLAND
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted that additional signings are needed before the end of the 2025 summer transfer window, despite four new players arriving at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners have spent a combined €142.8 million on the signings of Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga so far this summer, but they remain extremely active in the market.
Arsenal are locked in negotiations with Sporting CP in an attempt to finalise payment terms for Viktor Gyokeres, while they are on the verge of signing Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera for an initial fee of €15m.
In addition, the north London outfit are also interested in both Eberechi Eze and Rodrygo, and Arteta has confirmed that he is pushing the club to bring in more reinforcements as he looks to win a major trophy for the first time since 2020.
“There’s still a long time in the window, and we are seeking still,” the Arsenal boss told reporters during a press conference in Singapore. “In terms of numbers, we are short and we have to improve the depth and quality of the squad.
“We are constantly looking in the market. Until that happens, focus on the players we have and focus on them and I’m very pleased with what I have seen in the last 10-15 days.
“Ideally you want it from day one in pre-season. I think we have done very well so far, I’m very pleased with how the club has supported the necessities and improvements that we required in the team. I think Andrea [Berta, Arsenal’s sporting director] and the team have done an excellent job as well trying to push everything forward.
“There’s a long time to go in the window but we still have our hopes we can improve the team and we will continue to try and do that.”
Mikel Arteta on Arsenal’s summer signings
Although he would like additional signings to arrive in north London this summer, Arteta has revealed his delight at the four new players at his disposal.
“It’s like shaking the tree again. Bringing new faces, they bring new excitement, new energy as well. We signed very important players as well. I think everybody feels that the heights have to go to a different level and it’s what we are seeking.”
Zubimendi, Norgaard and Kepa could all make their Arsenal debuts against AC Milan on Wednesday, although Madueke will not feature as he hasn’t travelled on the Gunners’ pre-season tour after his exploits at the Club World Cup with Chelsea.
