Liverpool ready to pull REVERSE Alexander-Arnold transfer trick after Konate bombshell

Liverpool are in danger of seeing another repeat of their Trent Alexander-Arnold saga after reports that Ibrahima Konate is ‘stalling’ on extending his contract at Anfield.
Alexander-Arnold controversially joined Real Madrid this summer after allow his contract to wind down, with Liverpool netting just €10 million from the Spanish side in order to sign him to play in the Club World Cup.
Konate is entering the final year of his contract with the Reds and the Frenchman has rejected Liverpool’s initial offer of an extension, according to The Guardian.
The 26-year-old is said to be ‘disappointed’ by the structure of the deal, with Konate’s representatives believed to be pushing for a higher basic wage instead of the performance-incentivised salary currently being offered by Liverpool.
Liverpool plan to continue talks with Konate later in the summer but they are described as ‘adamant’ that they will not be forced into overpaying even with the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain ready to prey on any uncertainty over his future.
Should Liverpool fail to agree a new deal with Konate before the end of the summer, they may look to reluctantly cash in on the defender to avoid losing him on a free transfer or for significantly less than his market value next year.
Liverpool ready to swoop for contract rebel of their own to strengthen defence
Liverpool have already begun adding to their defence after breaking the British transfer record by signing Florian Wirtz last week, having already brought in Jeremie Frimpong in addition to the impending arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth in the coming days.
Regardless of the future of Konate, Arne Slot’s side are still looking to add a centre-back to replace the outgoing Jarell Quansah, who has agreed to join Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of around €40m.

Liverpool’s latest target is understood to be Marc Guehi, who is believed to have told Crystal Palace that he will not extend his contract that expires next summer amid interest from the Reds, with the England international looking to move to a top club to secure his spot at next summer's World Cup.
Guehi could now be sold this summer, with Arsenal, Newcastle and Chelsea all among the sides that are interested in rivalling Liverpool for his signature, although the 26-year-old may look to pull his own 'Alexander-Arnold' by running down his contract and moving to Anfield on a free transfer next year.
