Man Utd REIGNITE transfer interest in Chelsea FLOP

Manchester United are believed to have reignited their interest in Christopher Nkunku after reportedly reaching out to the Chelsea forward over a potential transfer in recent days.
Nkunku is all but certain to leave Chelsea after a poor season where he struggled for domestic minutes and failed to prove his worth to Enzo Maresca, leading to the 27-year-old missing the final nine games of the season.
The determination by both Nkunku and Chelsea to part ways has seemingly alerted United, who L’Equipe claim have contacted the Frenchman’s entourage to discuss the terms of a transfer, without making an offer as of yet.
United had considered a move for Nkunku in January but Chelsea were reluctant to sanction the departure of a squad player mid-season, however they are keen to cash in on the forward this summer.
Ruben Amorim’s side are operating under tight constraints after missing out on European football for next season and they have expanded their search for attacking talent amid Brentford demanding up to €80 million for United’s top target Bryan Mbeumo.
While United are looking to sign Mbeumo and an additional forward, it remains to be seen whether they pursue a deal in the coming weeks, with the player said to be attracting interest from several clubs without concrete negotiations having yet begun.
United hoping to take advantage of Nkunku’s low stock at Chelsea
Nkunku joined Chelsea for €60m in 2023 but the former RB Leipzig star arrived injured, leading to just two starts in his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.
Despite ending his second season as Chelsea’s second-top scorer in all competitions, Nkunku had a disappointing campaign, with just three of his 15 goals coming in the Premier League across 27 appearances – only nine of which were starts.
Nkunku failed to prove his credentials as an out-and-out number nine for Chelsea during a two-month absence to starting striker Nicolas Jackson and all parties are aware that he faces no long-term future at the club.
In spite of his injury and fitness troubles, United could perhaps see Nkunku as a versatile and low-cost option to strengthen in attack, with Chelsea likely to be forced to accept a loan or a cut-price deal to get rid of a player with four years still left on his contract.
