Chelsea summer deal in doubt amid CRISIS TALKS

AC Milan have reportedly scheduled crisis talks with Mike Maignan as they attempt to tie the France international down to a new long-term deal.
The 29-year-old’s current contract at San Siro is due to expire next summer and Chelsea were recently in advanced talks over blockbuster transfer.
However, Enzo Maresca’s side were ultimately unable to finalise a deal with Milan and they have now paused their interest in his signature due to their participation at the 2025 Club World Cup.
Maresca has dismissed talk of a summer move for Maignan by insisting that Robert Sanchez remains his preferred goalkeeper as things stand, but Chelsea remain interested in the Frenchman and could opt to pursue a Bosman deal in 2026.
Maignan has not yet abandoned the idea of joining Chelsea, as per Calciomercato, however, Milan have now scheduled talks with the 29-year-old in an attempt to convince him to sign a new contract.
New head coach Massimiliano Allegri is eager to retain Maignan and initial contact is expected to take place with the Frenchman this week.
Enzo Maresca on Mike Maignan
When asked about Chelsea’s pursuit of Maignan ahead of his side’s Club World Cup opener against Los Angeles FC, Maresca told reporters: “Robert [Sanchez] is the number one, we have Filip [Jorgensen] as number two.
“[Mike] Penders joins us in the next few weeks to analyse, judge him and take a final decision. Then for Maignan or different players, I don't think it's worth talking about them.”
Chelsea currently have six senior goalkeepers on their books, following Marcus Bettinelli’s move to Manchester City, although Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to join Arsenal and Djordje Petrovic is also expected to depart on a permanent deal after being excluded from the Blues’ squad for the 2025 Club World Cup.
