Chelsea have reached personal terms with their biggest transfer of the summer to date, according to Fabrizio Romano, who says the Blues “keep advancing” on Jamie Gittens of Borussia Dortmund.
The Stamford Bridge club have already spent €115 million to sign five new players to add to head coach Enzo Maresca’s options, yet they are set to complete the biggest deal of the Italian’s reign to get former Manchester City youngster Gittens over the line.
In the face of renewed competition from Bayern Munich, Chelsea are still thought to be leading the way to sign the 20-year-old, with Romano indicating that personal terms for the move have already been agreed over a deal that will run until 2032.

“Jamie Gittens has an agreement with Chelsea on a seven-year contract. Chelsea now working club to club to reach an agreement with Dortmund,” Romano says on YouTube.
“Chelsea keep advancing on this deal, and keep considering Gittens as a priority target for them this summer.”
Maresca’s side previously approached Gittens at the beginning of the month only to be knocked back by Dortmund, who were determined to have the England U21 player in their ranks for the FIFA Club World Cup.
Bayern have since reignited their interest in the youngster, but reports from Germany indicate that the player is unwilling to negotiate a contract with any other club while Chelsea are interested.
Dortmund are thought to want €60m for Gittens, having previously asked for €65m at the start of June. The player’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) sits at €68m, meanwhile.
Chelsea's biggest summer signing so far has been the €35m the Blues paid Ipswich Town to trigger Liam Delap's release clause.

“Jamie Gittens couldn’t get minutes at Borussia Dortmund under Niko Kovac, so what makes anyone think he’ll get time at Chelsea? Sure, he started the season strongly for Borussia Dortmund but that was relative to everyone else in a midtable team,” he says.
“Kovac came in and made them good again. And he did that by cutting Gittens from the team because his defensive work didn’t fit the approach he needed. What approach was that? Winning football matches.
“Gittens scored some big goals last season, but he is still a hugely unfinished talent. He’s very raw to move to Chelsea now, and it feels like he will follow the path of so many of their recent signings and end up playing for another club in a couple of years after wasting some of his early career.”
