Jamie Gittens’ transfer to Chelsea is ‘imminent’ after the Premier League side met Dortmund’s demands to ensure they did not miss out on the winger to rival clubs.

Gittens was close to joining Chelsea before the Club World Cup transfer deadline earlier this month but a fee could not be agreed with Dortmund despite personal terms being struck between the player and the Blues.

However, a report from German outlet BILD claims that Dortmund and Chelsea have ‘grown closer’ during the Club World Cup and a deal for Gittens is now ‘almost perfect’.

Talks were held in the USA this week where Dortmund held strong on their €65 million valuation for Gittens, leading to Chelsea accepting the proposal and not trying to lower the price for the Englishman.

Chelsea had previously offered €55m, which led to Dortmund eventually breaking off negotiations, but Bayern Munich are understood to have recently met with Gittens agent in the hope that they could hijack any deal.

But Chelsea’s acceptance of Dortmund’s terms, combined with personal terms already being in place, has led to Bayern’s interest being ‘dashed’, with Gittens likely to move to Stamford Bridge after the end of the Club World Cup when a formal offer is submitted.

Gittens arrival ends Chelsea interest in Garnacho

Assuming Chelsea finalise no further deals between now and the Club World Cup’s end on 13 July, Gittens would become Enzo Maresca’s sixth arrival of the summer after the recent captures of Liam Delap of Ipswich and Strasbourg’s Mamadou Sarr.

Estevao, Kendry Paez and Dario Essugo also joined the club this summer after agreeing moves to Chelsea previously, although it remains to be seen how many of their signings are quickly loaned out for the new season.

Gittens’ arrival would solve a major priority for Chelsea, with the Blues having pushed for a right-footed winger in recent times after failing to sign Alejandro Garnacho in January, and a move for the Manchester United forward was considered again this summer but is now expected to be shelved.

Chelsea made Gittens their top target for the wings and their persistence appears to have paid off, with attention now likely to shift towards outgoings for players such as Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix.
