Amorim made us feel invincible – Gyokeres

Gyokeres has suggested that he could move to Manchester United in the summer while hailing head coach Ruben Amorim.

Amorim finds himself under fire following Man Utd’s Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, even offering to quit the club without compensation.

While the Portuguese finds himself targeted, in particular, by Alejandro Garnacho for criticism, Gyokeres has hailed the impact that he had on the Swede’s career.

The 26-year-old striker finds himself linked with some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Amorim’s Man Utd all following the Swede.

A run of 53 goals and 13 assists in 50 games for Sporting this season has generated this interest.

“Did we feel invincible under Amorim? Yes,” he told SIC (via A Bola) of the Lisbon club under the Man Utd boss, who notably led them to a handsome Champions League win over Manchester City in which Gyokeres grabbed a hat-trick.

Speaking of Amorim’s exit, he revealed: “It was something that we, as a group of players, didn’t want. We were flying and winning all the league games and doing well in the Champions League too.

“It was a sad moment, but we completely understood his decision and there were no hard feelings. We spoke to him and to all the players. Everything was very clear and there were no hard feelings.”

Arsenal star keeping tabs on Gyokeres

Declan Rice is clearly keeping his eyes peeled with the movements of Gyokeres. The England star ‘liked’ a post of the Sporting hitman.

Gyokeres was celebrating the Portuguese title win of the Lisbon club on Instagram, posting: “The first time was so good, we had to do it twice.”

Rice, who does not follow the Swede, liked the post.

Uncle makes strong hint

Gyokeres’ uncle has suggested that the striker could spend a third year at Sporting rather than leaving.

This would come as a surprising move given the interest in the forward, plus that fact he has a release agreement worth around €70 million with the club.

In an interview with SportTV published on A Bola, he was asked: “Do I like Sporting ? Yes, very much... yesterday at dinner we decided that he has to stay!

“Will he stay at Sporting ? Yes, we think so. We hope so, because, look, we love it, it's incredible, the country, the people and Sporting. We love it!”
