Williams searching for London home

In a move that will perhaps indicate where his mind lies, Nico Williams has reportedly started looking for a house in London as he prepares for the summer ahead.

Williams has all but confirmed he will leave Bilbao this summer due to the €60 million release clause in his contract, which teams such as Arsenal and Chelsea are willing to activate.

And reports in Spain claim that Williams is already looking for a home in London, with the Premier League said to be his most likely destination.

Barcelona rule out Williams transfer

Williams’ ideal move is said to be Barcelona but the Catalan side have ruled out making a move for the 22-year-old, giving Premier League sides a clear run at the forward.

Barca had pushed heavily for Williams last summer but he opted to stay with Athletic Club and the door appears to have closed on his dream move, with the La Liga frontrunners withdrawing their offer for the player.

Despite frustration over Williams’ rejection last summer and the attitude of some his entourage, Barca had considered a renewed move for their former top target this year.

However, due to the form of Raphinha, Barca are set to prioritise other areas, closing the door on Williams’ move to the club.

Arsenal frontrunners for Williams signature

Arsenal now remain frontrunners to sign Williams after the player’s camp held talks with Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta.

Williams is first looking to finish his season at Bilbao and see which European competition the La Liga side qualify for next season, with a potential Champions League finish an option to tempt him into staying.

However, Williams is understood to have told Arsenal he is prepared to move to them, according to TBR Football.

But the player’s wage demands, thought to be in excess of €300,000, could prove to be a stumbling block to Arsenal or any side interested.

Arsenal prioritise Williams over Rodrygo

Arsenal will also likely pursue a move for Williams over one for Real Madrid star Rodrygo despite having interest in both.

Rodrygo will be available for transfer this summer and is keen on a move to a top club, with Real Madrid also willing to cash in, and the market opportunity has attracted interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City among other sides.

However, reports from Spain claim that Arsenal see Williams as a better fit for their side and will not pursue Rodrygo unless any move for their top target falls through.
