Arsenal shock move for ‘best player in the world’: Chelsea stunned

Arsenal’s summer transfer plans have just taken an unwelcome twist for rivals Chelsea, with Mikel Arteta’s side rumoured to be chasing a player who has recently been branded the “best in the world”.
Arteta’s primary aims during the transfer window are to nail down a new centre-forward and winger, with Viktor Gyokeres and Nico Williams respectively earmarked for these positions.
But Arsenal also want to reinforce their midfield, particularly with Thomas Partey and Jorginho in line to depart as free agents this summer.
Now the Gunners are being linked with Andrey Santos, the Chelsea midfielder who has caught the eye on loan at Strasbourg, where he has become one of Ligue 1’s outstanding performers. It is thought a deal could be reached for around €45-50 million.
Andrey Santos has attracted interest from a number of top-flight clubs, with Champions League finalists PSG also keen on signing the 20-year-old.
Shock Andrey Santos move in the pipeline?
Fabrizio Romano has previously confirmed that Chelsea’s plan is to take the youngster back to Stamford Bridge, at least initially, but what happens to him thereafter is less certain. It would be a big shock if the Blues were willing to sanction a move of such a promising youngster to a direct rival.
Andrey Santos is highly thought of at Strasbourg, but even in the case of Champions League qualification next season, it could prove complicated to retain him on loan. If Chelsea also reach the competition, the two clubs are unlikely to be able to trade players as they have this season.

“He’s the best player in the world,” Diego Moreira declared following Racing’s 2-1 win over Toulouse in March.
Strasbourg head coach Liam Rosenior has also showered him with praise, declaring after that same fixture: “He’s one of the best midfielders in Ligue 1. He’s present in both boxes. He wins a lot of balls, his technique and his decisions bring a lot to the team. He’s got a really strong daily work ethic.”
Chelsea would be wise to do all they can to secure the future of Andrey Santos, but if a big-money offer comes from Arsenal, it could be hard to say no.
