Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly in “pole position” to sign Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen this summer, while Real Madrid remain hopeful of landing the Spain international ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

Huijsen has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after defenders since moving to Bournemouth from Juventus last year and he is expected to leave Andoni Iraola’s side in order to sign for one of the biggest clubs in world football.

Chelsea have been considered the favourites to sign the 20-year-old for several weeks, but new developments suggest they now face an uphill battle to secure his signature.

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Arsenal and Liverpool are currently leading the race to sign Huijsen this summer, while Real Madrid have stepped up their bid for the Spaniard and are confident of beating Chelsea to his signature, according to The Telegraph’s Matt Law.

Huijsen has made 34 appearances across all competitions for Bournemouth so far this season and his form for the Cherries is set to result in a major transfer battle that may well not be resolved until after the new season has begun.

Chelsea’s Dean Huijsen plan

If Chelsea end up missing out on Huijsen, they are expected to pursue a move for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi or Ajax’s Jorrel Hato, as per The Telegraph.

Real Madrid have reportedly held talks over a move for Huijsen and they are currently prepared to offer him a significantly higher annual salary than the Blues, but Chelsea haven’t given up hope of landing the 20-year-old and they will free up space for him in their squad by selling Axel Disasi - who is currently on loan at Aston Villa.

The Blues may also consider selling Wesley Fofana if a sizable offer is lodged, largely due to his injury issues since his move to Stamford Bridge in 2022.
