The Spain international is one of Barcelona’s priority targets for the 2025 summer transfer window, but Hansi Flick’s side look set to miss out on his signature as Arsenal and Chelsea prepare to go head-to-head in the race to sign him.

That is according to Fichajes, who claim that Williams is eager for a “change of scenery” and wants to secure a move to a Premier League club this summer.

The 22-year-old is reportedly open to extending his stay at Athletic Club if they qualify for next season’s Champions League, which looks increasingly likely, but a move to England is seen as extremely appealing.

Fichajes claim that Arsenal and Chelsea are “engaged in a fierce battle” to sign Williams this summer as both clubs look to bolster their attack with the addition of a quality left winger before the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Jamie Gittens is also being monitored by the two London teams, although he is a far more inexperienced and less proven option than Williams.

Nico Williams to leave Athletic Club?

Williams has scored 11 goals and provided seven assists in 44 appearances across all competitions for Athletic Club so far this season, and he is viewed as the ideal player to help a Premier League title charge by both Arsenal and Chelsea.

The Spain international has just two years remaining on his current contract at Athletic Club, meaning a sale could be on the cards this summer, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at a career high of €76.7 million.
