Ederson to Man City in January: Fabrizio Romano reveals state of play
Fabrizio Romano says that Atalanta do not want to sell Man City target Ederson in January.
The Atalanta star has become one of the hottest names on the market as his contract expires in 18 months and there is little prospect of him signing a new deal.
Man City have been the club who have most heavily linked with making a move for Ederson, with Pep Guardiola said to be a big fan.
Could Ederson leave in January?
However, Matteo Moretto has reported on Romano's Italian YouTube channel that Atalanta have no intention to sell Ederson in the middle of the season.
A summer transfer is likely as his contract will have 12 months to run then.
Moretto adds that Saudi Arabian clubs are making the biggest push for Ederson going into 2026 but that the Brazilian would prefer to continue his football in Europe.
Romano said earlier this week that an offer of between €30-40 million could be enough for Atalanta to sell in 2026.
Ederson is regarded as possibly the most consistent central midfielder in Serie A over the last two years, with Fabio Capello considering him world class.
He really sold himself to a worldwide audience with his brilliant performance in Atalanta's Europa League final win over Bayer Leverkusen last year.
Ederson functions mostly as a box to box midfielder, but he can play as a defensive midfielder and as a more attacking central midfielder.
Importantly, he boasts intensity, fierce tackling and pressing, and superb stamina that sees him cover lots of ground and never stop running.
The Brazilian played a key role in Atalanta winning the Europa League in 2023/24 and he produced a world class performance in the 3-0 thrashing of Bayer Leverkusen in the final.
Ederson joined Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022 and has gone on to make over 150 appearances, scoring 14 goals.
