Romano says that Villa have opened talks with Rogers in response to the strong interest major clubs have in the player.

Chelsea were interested in signing Rogers at the start of this summer and remain big fans. Meanwhile, Tottenham were ready to make a big offer in the closing days of the window but Villa refused to sell.

Villa hope that a new contract will end the chance of Rogers being swayed by a move away from the club.

Rogers to tie down future with Villa?

Romano says that negotiations are at an early stage, with Villa close to extending the contract of John McGnn and having recently signed a new deal with Matty Cash.

Rogers has developed into one of the Premier League’s most admired players over the past year or so.

Rogers joined Aston Villa in January 2024 from Middlesbrough for an eventual €17 million but his value has more than quadrupled in the two years since.

He has made 83 appearances for Villa, scoring 18 goals.

The number 10 scored an impressive 14 goals in Al competitions last season and helped Villa to a great run in the Champions League as they reached the quarter finals.

This season he has struggled a bit more, and has found the net just once.

He has been capped nine times by England and scored one goal.

The 23-year-old is expected to go to the 2026 World Cup with Thomas Tuchel’s team.
