Wharton only signed for Crystal Palace from Championship club Blackburn Rovers in January and yet he has earned a place in Gareth Southgate's 26-man for Euro 2024.

Indeed, his performances for Palace under new manager Oliver Glasner have been nothing short of superb.

As a result, Man City are already planning on making a move for the 20-year-old, according to The Evening Standard.

They go on to say that Pep Guardiola's side are unlikely to bid for Wharton this summer but they have earmarked him for the future.

With Kevin De Bruyne coming to the end of his time in Manchester, as his contract expires next summer, the Citizens do need to sign some younger talent.

Replacing the Belgian's creativity will be impossible, but Wharton has shown the composure in central midfield that suggests he can play at the highest level.

Saudi clubs chasing two Man City stars

Both De Bruyne and Ederson have been linked with moves to the Saudi Pro League in recent months.

According to The Mirror, De Bruyne's agents met with 10 Saudi clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

Neymar's Al-Hilal, Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr and Karim Benzema's Al-Ittihad are known to be three of them.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported that Al-Ittihad are weighing up a move for Ederson.

They believe that a £25 million offer could tempt Pep Guardiola's side into selling the 30-year-old.

Al-Nassr might also look to sign the Brazilian as a replacement for soon-to-be free agent David Ospina.
