RB Leipzig have reignited their interest in Lutsharel Geetruida, according to German media.

Feyenoord's right-back was already linked with the Bundesliga top club last summer and, at one point, even seemed to be on his way to East Germany. A transfer was cancelled at the last minute, however.

Now, RB Leipzig seem to be ready to return for the Rotterdam star, according to BILD. Since Geertruida's contract expires in 2025, there is a good chance that the right-back will be sold by Feyenoord this summer.

Last season's Eredivisie champions do not want to run the risk that the 23-year-old defender will walk away for free after next season and are therefore open to negotiations with interested clubs.

It may well be that RB Leipzig will soon report to Feyenoord for the vice-captain. The Germans are operating under the assumption that current right-back Benjamin Henrichs is going to leave as the German international is in the same situation at RB Leipzig as Geertruida at Feyenoord.

Henrichs has a contract until 2025 with the Red Bulls, who have offered the defender a final proposal for a contract extension. If Henrichs does not agree to this, a departure this summer will beckon for the defender.

Geetruida also on Liverpool's radar

If Henrichs does indeed leave, Geertruida is RB Leipzig's main candidate to succeed him. The Rotterdammer had already agreed to a switch to Saxony last summer. However, the German top club decided at the last minute to waive Geertruida.

Now that Henrichs looks to be leaving, RB Leipzig may after all end up with Geertruida, who currently has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €21.8 million. However, the Dutchman has also been tipped to follow coach Arne Slot to Liverpool.

De Telegraaf's Marcel van der Kraan recently said that he believes there is a 'greater than 50 per cent chance' that Geertruida will leave for Liverpool. "He is on the radar and has done fantastic in the Dutch national team and in the Champions League, he is a boy who physically fits the Premier League best of all Feyenoord players."

Van der Kraan is convinced that the 23-year-old defender would succeed in the physically demanding English competition. "I have no doubts about Geertruida, I have seen him play so much."
