Marcus Rashford may need a change of scenery to get back to his best, according to Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney.

The England international has been a shadow of the player he was last season when he notched a whopping 30 goals for the Red Devils. Much like the rest of Man Utd's team, Rashford has been below par for much of this season.

It has been a dire campaign on both a personal level and at club level for the 26-year-old, though he certainly hasn't helped himself with off-pitch escapades such as his tequila-fuelled bender in Belfast, which saw him call in sick for Man Utd's FA Cup clash with Newport County.

Rashford has been harshly criticised this term and for good reason. He is a local boy and, on paper, one of the Red Devils' best players. His form could yet prove crucial to whether Erik ten Hag stays on as United boss beyond this season and it will be up to the Dutchman to try and get the best out of Rashford.

If it were up to Roy Keane, the winger would get an 'old-fashioned kick up the a**e.' Another Red Devils, Wayne Rooney, is not so sure that the solution to Rashford's lack of form is quite so simple.

Should Rashford leave?

Speculation surrounding Rashford's future has been rampant in recent months. After links with PSG as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe, it is now being claimed that United are eyeing a move for Rafael Leao, which would surely spell doom for Rashford at Old Trafford.

Leaving the club may be the best option for Rashford as far as Rooney is concerned. "He has had a very difficult season. We all know he has got the ability and got all the attributes to be a top world-class player," he told Premier League Productions.

"That's the frustrating thing. Last season, he went and scored a lot of goals. But this season, he hasn't kicked on. He doesn't look happy when he is playing. You wonder, is his best option to move away from the club and have a fresh start? But he is a Manchester lad."

"I would love to see him get his career back on track at the club, go on to score goals and try to help the club win trophies. But he certainly has had a difficult season."
