Manchester United are considering Leeds flop Weston McKennie as a potential shock transfer target this summer, according to a report.

American McKennie, 25, enjoyed a short, unhappy spell at Elland Road after he signed on an initial six-month loan deal from Juventus in January 2023.

His time in West Yorkshire culminated in a disappointing relegation with McKennie featuring in 20 matches across all competitions and unable to prevent the Whites from slumping towards the Championship.

A proposed £30 million permanent deal was scuppered following Leeds’ relegation and the former Schalke star returned to parent club Juve with his future up in the air.

The USMNT international has since re-aligned his career with a series of impressive performances in the Juve midfield, with his side looking good for a return to the Champions League.

Although the Bianconeri’s form has tailed off in recent weeks, with one win in seven Serie A matches, they are safely ensconced in third place in the table and, barring a disaster, will return to Europe’s top table next term.

Doubts grow over McKennie’s long-term future

McKennie is about to enter the last 12 months of his contract, having signed for Juve on an initial loan deal in 2020 before the move was made permanent 12 months later.

Given the uncertainty over his future and with Juventus not intending to let him leave for free in 2025, the club are ready to listen to offers.

He could be available for around £15m and has been named as a potential United target by GIVEMESPORT.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS operation eyeing midfielders for the upcoming transfer window, it’s been reported that Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi is among the primary targets.

Zubimendi, 25, is among the most-coveted players of the upcoming window with Liverpool, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Juve all thought to be keen on his signature.

Should the Red Devils miss out on first-choices like the Spain star then they will activate an alternative option and that could lead to McKennie completing a shock move to Old Trafford.

McKennie has also been identified by the report as a potential target for both Aston Villa and Fulham.

Meanwhile, Juventus has been mentioned as a potential destination for Sofyan Amrabat, who will return to Fiorentina in summer.
