Man Utd reignite interest in RB Leipzig attacker as Martial replacement

RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner is liked by Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The attacker, who is currently spending the second half of the season on loan at Tottenham, is now on the Red Devils’ radar, suggests Spanish publication Fichajes.

The 26-year-old forward joined Spurs on a loan deal until the end of the season during the January window - with the North London club agreeing to cover his wages in full. Tottenham have the option to make the move permanent in the summer, for a fee of £15million, but it’s not clear whether they will activate that clause.

Werner spent a couple of seasons at Chelsea from 2020 to 2022 but was unable to replicate the form he had in Germany. He returned to RB Leipzig but again failed to hit the mark, before heading to Spurs in the last window.

Owing to his impressive displays in North London so far, Spurs are expected to try and sign Werner permanently in the summer. However, Tottenham could now face stiff competition from Erik ten Hag’s side, who are looking to bolster their attack.

Anthony Martial is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer when his contract is up, meaning that Rasmus Hojlund as the only rightout No.9 for the following campaign.

It’s thought that RB Leipzig are likely to demand a similar fee from Man Utd for Werner - around £15m - which makes the deal an attractive prospect for the Premier League giants.
