Chelsea have been urged to sign two Real Madrid midfield legends to bolster their squad, as the Blues continue to struggle under Mauricio Pochettino.

Since new owner Todd Boehly took over in the summer of 2022 the London club has been among football's freest-spending, but that massive outlay has not translated into results on the field.

After a disappointing 2022-23 season that saw both Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter sacked, Pochettino is now feeling the heat as manager as Chelsea languish in 11th place in the Premier League.

Boehly now risks seeing his team finish outside of European qualification for the second straight campaign and could well make further sweeping personnel changes this summer.

And according to former Blues favourite Joe Cole, a daring double swoop on the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu could finally turn around their fortunes.

"Does Luka Modric want to come and play in the Premier League for one more year?" Cole pondered during an interview with TalkSport.

"He's still doing bits at Real Madrid. How much has he helped [Eduardo] Camavinga, [Aurelien] Tchouameni, [Federico] Valverde? He would have had such an influence on them as players.

"Toni Kroos is 34 but does he want to test himself at his age, coming over here and helping out this young squad."

Modric and Kroos have been two of the cornerstones of Madrid's success over the past decade.

Since first linking up at the Bernabeu in 2014 the pair have lifted four Champions League titles and three La Liga crowns, and could add to that tally this year with the Merengue still competitive in both competitions.

Even at 38 and 34 their talent and experience would be a huge asset as Chelsea look to turn a corner, but there is no guarantee Madrid would be willing to deal two of their idols in the same summer.
