Chelsea fans have hailed the impact of Mykhailo Mudryk after his man-of-the-match display in Wednesday’s FA Cup victory over Leeds United.

Mudryk grabbed Chelsea’s second goal in a 3-2 success over the in-form Championship side as the Blues headed off a cup upset to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition, where they will face Leicester at Stamford Bridge.

The Ukraine international has been subject to huge scrutiny since his high-profile €70 million move from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023.

Mudryk has just five goals and five assists for the Blues in 44 appearances and has shown little of the potential that saw Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi tout him as a potential Ballon d’Or winner in the future.

The 23-year-old may have started to turn a corner. Although he was left on the bench against Crystal Palace and Manchester City in recent Premier League matches, he grabbed an assist against Wolves in his previous league outing before registering against Leeds.

It may not be much, but it’s certainly a start, and Mudryk is starting to get Chelsea fans excited over what he might produce again in the future – particularly as there are renewed rumours that Raheem Sterling could be sold in the summer.

“Mykhailo Mudryk is going to become the best winger in the world at Chelsea,” one fan claimed.

Another said: “Fully deserved.”

Others pointed to the change in role he was given against Leeds as being central to his improvement.

“Yea just keep him in the 10 role,” a supporter said.

That sentiment was echoed by a second, who added: “Poch needs to let him drive that middle for us.”

And a third chipped in: “Build his confidence by giving him more free role! He is excellent young talent.”

Not everyone is convinced, though.

“Play really well yesterday but there is still much to improve on,” one supporter said.

The ability of Mudryk to produce consistently is something that worries fans, with another stating: “Love it for him. I really want him to do well at Chelsea. He definitely has the skills, but something doesn’t seem right with him mentally.”

Mudryk will hope to continue his run against struggling Brentford on Saturday.
