With the future of Conor Gallagher at Chelsea under question, another England star could soon find himself out of the door at Stamford Bridge.

Raheem Sterling’s place in the squad is under question, with bosses split over where his future should lie.

The former Liverpool and Manchester City player finds himself in the midst of what GiveMeSport describes as a “power battle” at the club.

His situation mirrors that of Gallagher, who manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to retain but who the board want to sell in order to ease their financial issues.

With eight goals and eight assists in 31 matches this season, Sterling has not reached the levels he achieved with Pep Guardiola’s side and the Telegraph previously reported that Chelsea owner Todd Boehly had himself told the player that his time at the club was up prior to last summer.

Although Sterling remained at the club, the financial pressures that Chelsea find themselves subject to could force him out.

He is the club’s highest earner by a significant margin and this is doing him no favours as he tries to win over the Blues’ hierarchy.

Chelsea split over Sterling

Dean Jones explained to GiveMeSport the type of divide that has emerged around Sterling at Chelsea lately.

“There are some at the club who feel that his experience and his qualities are definitely worth sticking with and persisting with,” he said.

“But there are others who would be quite happy for Sterling to be moved on at this stage. This is just where we are with Chelsea right now, for various reasons.

“There are splits within the hierarchy over how happy they are and the direction they want Chelsea to go in. I think it's that situation that raises doubts about whether Raheem Sterling does actually end up staying beyond the summer. It could be a bit of a power battle to see who gets their way.”

Chelsea are enduring another disappointing season as they sit 10th in the Premier League but face Sterling’s former club Liverpool in the EFL Cup final on Sunday.
