Liverpool send Darwin Nunez exciting transfer message – Romano

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has split opinion since joining the club 18 months ago, and football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano knows what the plans for the striker are as the Reds prepare to move into the post-Jurgen Klopp era.

Klopp announced his departure from Anfield at the end of the season last week, thrusting the future of several players into question.

While Virgil van Dijk has suggested that he could depart along with the manager, while greater uncertainty now surrounds the future of Mohamed Salah, Nunez is a rising star at Anfield and was signed by Klopp with one eye on the future.

The former Benfica hitman, who joined the Anfield club in the summer of 2022 for €75m million with potentially €25m more following in bonuses, appears purpose-built for the German’s high-octane style of football, and there are doubts as to whether he could fit effectively into a more disciplined system.

Romano, though, is of no doubts what Liverpool’s plans for Nunez are.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, he posted: “Liverpool are very happy with Darwin Nunez as he's the first Premier League player this season to reach 10+ goals and assists in all competitions.

“Liverpool believe his development has been excellent, very happy with improvement and attitude.”

For Nunez, it is clearly exciting to have the full faith of the club behind him.

Fast-rising star

Data analytics experts SciSports have rated Nunez among the most improved Premier League players of the season, with the Uruguay international ace coming sixth in their ranking.

The 24-year-old has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season, with the latest of these arriving in the 5-2 FA Cup over Norwich City on Sunday. He also bagged a couple in the recent 4-0 win over Bournemouth but has not scored against a team in the top half of the Premier League since netting against West Ham in September.

The stats don’t lie, though, and it appears that Liverpool expect much more to come from Nunez in the years to come.
