Liverpool have been given an encouraging update on Kylian Mbappe's contract situation at PSG.

The French megastar's future remains up in the air. Out of contract in the summer, Mbappe can negotiate with interested clubs since January 1. However, despite recent rumours in the French media that he has already agreed a deal with Real Madrid, the 25-year-old and his camp insist that he has not made a final decision on his next club.

PSG, of course, are keen to tie him down to a long-term deal and end this two-year transfer saga once and for all. As for Los Blancos, recent media reports have claimed that their hard-ball tactics of giving Mbappe a deadline to force him into a quick decision have backfired. Indeed, some have claimed that Liverpool are now the favourites to sign him if he decides to leave Paris.

Either way, the latest update on Mbappe's contract from L'Equipe certainly makes for exciting reading for Reds fans.

Mbappe unlikely to sign new deal

The French outlet has reiterated that Liverpool are ready to play spoilsports and that they have a good chance of securing the Frenchman's signature. "We should not completely rule out the path leading to the Premier League," it is claimed.

Furthermore, it is believed that talk of Mbappe signing a new PSG deal is becoming increasingly hypothetical. In other words, it seems as though the Frenchman is leaning towards a summer exit.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi recently echoed Mbappe's comments of a 'gentlemen's agreement' between the two parties. However, he was not talking about a contract extension. What he meant was that, according to Fabrizio Romano, Mbappe has agreed to waive his loyalty bonus for the season should he leave and that Al-Khelaifi will be the first to learn of the Frenchman's final decision.
