Fabrizio Romano has dismissed reports that Mike Maignan could leave AC Milan.

The goalkeeper continues to be a sought-after commodity. Heavily linked with Man Utd and Chelsea in the summer, the former ultimately signed Andre Onana from city rivals Inter, while the latter landed Robert Sanchez from Brighton.

Neither, however, have been particularly happy with their transfer choices so far, if reports are to be believed. Onana has made several high-profile howlers, most recently two in the Champions League against Galatasaray, and there have been rumours that the Red Devils could already move on from the Cameroon international.

As for Sanchez, he has had his fair share of wobbly moments too, but he wasn't brought in to be the undisputed number one in the first place. Initially, he was supposed to provide competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga, but his compatriot departed for Real Madrid and left the ex-Brighton man as the first-choice option.

Earlier this week, reports had suggested that the two Premier League giants were once again looking at Maignan to solve their goalkeeping issues, but it seems that there is not much to those rumours.

What did Romano say?

The reports cropped up in the wake of a claim in Maignan's home country that asserted that the Frenchman and Milan still had not come to an agreement on a new deal, with his current contract due to expire in 2026, and that United and Chelsea were attentive to the ongoing uncertainty.

According to Fabrizio Romano, however, the 28-year-old is not thinking about leaving Milan at this stage. “I wanted to start," Romano told CaughtOffside, "by clarifying some Manchester United transfer rumours involving a new goalkeeper signing, with some fans asking me about the reports linking them with AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.”

“Man United just invested €55m on Andre Onana in the summer, so there’s nothing else in terms of targets or negotiations. Zero. Man United are not working on a deal for Maignan and also the player is very happy at Milan. There’s really zero to this story at this stage.”
