Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester City and a host of other clubs are interested in Kobbie Mainoo - but Man Utd fans have nothing to worry about.

The youngster has burst into the spotlight this term. He got his chance to impress against Everton and he took it with both hands. An assured presence at the base of midfield, Mainoo gave the Red Devils something that they've lacked for most of the season: stability and the ability to dictate the tempo of the game.

While veterans Casemiro and Sofyan Amrabat have severely underwhelmed this term, the 18-year-old academy graduate has stepped up big time in his limited minutes. The youngster's potential is sky-high and this has, unsurprisingly, attracted the attention of others.

Usually, for a club of United's stature, interest in a young player shouldn't be a worry, but given the state of the Red Devils right now and the fact that they look miles off the level of Man City or even just Liverpool and Arsenal, the fact that Pep Guardiola is a big fan of Mainoo could have been cause for concern.

What did Romano say?

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, there is nothing to worry about for Man Utd fans. "In the recent weeks, we had rumours about Manchester City already planning to attack the situation of Kobbie Mainoo and try to sign him for the future."

"What I want to say is obviously all the top clubs not just in England but also in different countries know this boy very well. It's absolutely normal for scouts to go around and know these kind of players...Manchester City's people know him so well, and other clubs too, it's absolutely obvious."

"But at the same time, Man Utd feel protected. They've been smart with the timing to extend the contract of the boy months ago - Kobbie Mainoo is under contract until 2027 at Manchester United and I can tell you, from what I'm told, there is also an option on [the] club's side...to extend the contract for a further season, so until 2028."

"They're not worried about these stories about Manchester City. Obviously, in case Kobbie will keep going like this, playing regularly with the first team and playing at this level, Man Utd will be prepared to open talks again in the near future to improve his salary and to give Kobbie what he deserves."
