Ivan Toney would prefer to join Arsenal over Chelsea in 2024, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Brentford striker is wanted by both of the London clubs, and is almost certain to leave his club Brentford next year - either in January or more likely during the summer.

And Romano says that Toney's preferred next club is the Gunners.

What did Romano say about Toney?

“From what I’m hearing, this is one more detail on Ivan Toney,’ Romano shared on his Kick channel.

“This is a rumour I’m hearing that his preference in terms of a top club move in January or the summer would be to go to Arsenal. From what I’m hearing Ivan Toney could be really excited by the possibility of joining Arsenal.”

The Gunners are in the market for a striker in the new year and have been looking at a number of top options.

These include Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus, Victor Osimhen of Napoli and Brentford striker Toney.

All three players have been followed by both Arsenal and Chelsea, as the two London sides are both looking to strengthen their number nine position.

There have been some doubts whether Toney can make the step up at a team as big as Arsenal, but he has proven himself as one of the best English strikers around in recent years with 20 Premier League goals in 2022-23.

It has been reported that Brentford will ask for a fee of around £60 million for Toney, whose previous clubs include Peterborough United, Northampton and Newcastle.

He has won one cap for the England national team and he is hoping to work his way back into the squad for Euro 2024 next summer.

He is currently banned for illegal betting but will return to playing next month.
