Mauricio Pochettino has called on the Chelsea hierarchy to spend more money for players in the upcoming transfer window.

Despite the Blues breaking records where the buying players is concerned over the past two transfer windows, the Argentine has called on the board to bring in face faces in the new year, claiming that’s what they need to push on.

Chelsea were beaten 2-0 by Everton on Sunday after a poor display. The result leaves them below neighbours Fulham and Brentford in the Premier League table and some 14 points off a top-four spot.

After the defeat at Goodison Park, Pochettino stated that the club needs recruits for next season.

The former Tottenham boss said via Football.London: "This was a game to play and to win. It's a problem we need to check. We need to analyse the reality”

“We need to talk and to try and improve in the next transfer market. I will not say I need to ask for more players or less players but it's to see if the perception matches the reality. Is expectation here, reality here because we are missing something in the middle. That is the reality, maybe we need to improve our reality."…

How much did Chelsea spend in the summer?

The words have come as a surprise to some as Chelsea have spent a staggering £434.5m on recruits this summer - which is the most spent by any club during a transfer window in Premier League history.

The head coach was then asked about his side’s poor form of late. “It's a new project, it's a new team. Too many circumstances. It's tough to explain. Too many problems and circumstances for the season. It's not easy to build something new.

“Reality now, we are thinking is different. It's about to take decisions, being strong in how we assess the season and to improve in the second part of the season, be more competitive and to get the results a club like Chelsea deserves.

Chelsea face Sheffield United at home in the Premier League in their next match before facing Newcastle in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.
