Mohammed Kudus’ agent, Jen Mendelewitsch, has revealed that a contract was agreed with Chelsea this summer, but the Blues’ low offer to Ajax saw the move collapse.

Manchester United, Arsenal, PSG and Brighton were all linked with a move for Kudus, but he joined West Ham United instead after David Moyes’ side lodged a €43 million bid, which was accepted by Ajax.

As a result, Kudus is West Ham’s second most expensive signing in history, behind only Sebastien Haller (€50m).

The Ghana international has made eight appearances for his new club, scoring two goals, but he could have been wearing a Chelsea shirt this season if Todd Boehly had submitted an acceptable offer.

However, the Blues did not meet Ajax’s asking price and the transfer did not go through, despite personal terms being agreed.

What has been said about Kudus to Chelsea?

Mendelewitsch spoke to RMC Sport about her client’s failed move to Stamford Bridge and stated that several other players had a similar experience with Chelsea this summer.

“We reached an agreement with Chelsea, we agreed the contract with Chelsea but the deal was not done,” she said.

“He [Kudus] talked with the coach but in the end, it didn't happen because Chelsea made a ridiculous offer to Ajax. There was no counter offer.

“Chelsea did this with lots of players this summer, making very low offers to clubs knowing that they would not be accepted. The truth is that they were completely focused on the transfer of [Moises] Caicedo which took up all their energy,” she revealed.

“He wanted to leave [Ajax] but there weren't 50,000 clubs that needed a midfielder and could afford him.

"Obviously we offered his profile to PSG, then it was the club's choice not to move forward. Every club has the right to decide that they go to another profile or that it is not their priority,” Mendelewitsch concluded.
