Mega bid coming! Salah could become the most expensive player ever

Liverpool may have rejected a bid of €175 million from Al-Ittihad for Mohamed Salah, but the Saudi Pro League outfit are now prepared to break the global transfer record to free the attacker.

The transfer window for Saudi clubs closes on Thursday night, so Al-Ittihad hopes to strike in the coming hours.

After Al-Ittihad previously managed to lure Fabinho away from Liverpool, they now hope to make a splash with the arrival of Salah.

The Egyptian attacker has been under contract with Liverpool since 2017 and has won everything there was to win with the Reds. For that reason, the English superpower does not intend to simply cooperate with Salah's departure and will do everything in their power to fight against losing a player who has become an icon of Anfield in recent season.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Al-Ittihad would be prepared to make an offer of €233m for the now 31-year-old attacker on the final day of the transfer market.

This means that Salah can would become the most expensive player ever and thus dethrone Neymar. The Brazilian superstar transferred from Barcelona to PSG for €222 million on 3 August, 2017 and can now also be found in Saudi Arabia, where he plays for Al-Hilal.

Liverpool to fight for Salah

Should Salah still leave Liverpool, it would be a major loss for the Premier League club.

Liverpool have previously seen Jordan Henderson (Al-Ettifaq), James Milner (Brighton & Hove Albion), Roberto Firmino (Al-Ahli), Naby Keïta (Werder Bremen), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Besiktas) and Fabinho depart this summer.

With no possibility of replacing Salah given that the Premier League transfer window is shut, it appears unlikely that the Reds will allow their star player to depart, but given the sum of money potentially involved and the fact that he now has less than two years to run on his contract, there remains a possibility that they could cash in dramatically.
