Manchester United could have landed Harry Kane in the summer of 2024, but the England captain elected to instead move to Bayern Munich as there was no guarantee the Red Devils would get the deal done.

The Daily Mail reveals that Kane wanted to move to Man Utd but the Old Trafford side’s inability to promise the 30-year-old that a transfer could be completed sent him instead to Germany.

He was entering the final 12 months of his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and could have left as a free agent in 2024, but the report indicates that the No.9 doubted whether the Red Devils would be able to keep the door open to him that long.

Kane has long been a leading target for Erik ten Hag’s side, who so desperately wanted a centre-forward to add to their ranks this summer.

Ultimately, United went with Rasmus Hojlund, but the former Spurs man, who has 213 Premier League goals to his credit over the course of his career, would have offered more guarantees than the promising Dane.

Indeed, Manchester United tried to sign the three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner this summer but could not afford to sign him from a Tottenham outfit that were demanding a huge price.

Ten Hag reacts to missing out on Kane

Ten Hag was asked about missing out on Kane ahead of Man Utd’s Champions League encounter against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

“I think we’ve discussed it,” he told the press. “We are happy with Rasmus Hojlund. In the first game, he was injured. He played against Arsenal, he's had a start against Brighton, and now we have to integrate him in the team. You can see he's a big talent.”

While Hojlund is still waiting on his first Manchester United goal, Kane has made a strong start with Bayern Munich, scoring four times in four Bundesliga matches.
