Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou wants to sign Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea if talks with Bayern Munich end with an agreement to sell Harry Kane.

Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi was also under consideration by Postecoglou before he signed a new deal in Glasgow.

Lukaku wants to leave Chelsea this summer, we are told, and is searching for a five-year deal and £400,000 per week.

At the moment, Spurs would only be prepared to offer £300,000 per week, less than he currently earns with the Blues, for a one-season loan without an option to buy. Postecoglou feels that Lukaku has the right profile to replace Kane right now, and his Premier League experience means there’ll be no settling in period.

As we revealed last month, we are there are also ongoing negotiations for Ivan Toney, with a view to signing him for 2024/25 onwards; a move in January has also not been ruled out.

If Kane goes this window, sources inform us that Spurs would be prepared to use Richarlison as their first-choice striker, but Lukaku is being looked at as an alternative.

Scottish Premiership star Furuhashi is another player the Lilywhites boss likes, and talks were already taking place before Postecoglou formalised his move to north London.

However, the Japan international signed fresh terms at Celtic earlier in July and now has a deal that runs until 2027.

Harry Kane's future still undecided

It comes after the news that Bayern Munich remain significantly short of Tottenham's valuation of Kane following a meeting between representatives from both clubs in London.

Sky Sports report that the future of Kane was discussed over lunch yesterday, but there remains a wide difference in valuation between the club - with Bayern currently offering £20 million below Spurs' asking price.

However, there is hope that a deal can be reached from Bayern’s side and the dialogue remains open.

It is thought that the Premier League outfit want £100m for Kane, while the player is open to agreeing personal terms should a deal be struck between both parties.

Any move would likely mean that Bayern would have to break their transfer record - with their £68.5m purchase of Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid still their most expensive deal to date.
