Moises Caicedo now appears set to join Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool after the Merseyside club tabled a mouth-watering bid of €127 million (£110m) for the Ecuadorian.

Caicedo, 21, has been expected to join Chelsea all summer, with the Blues in constant negotiations with Brighton & Hove Albion owner Tony Bloom.

Furthermore, the player himself reportedly had his heart set on joining the Stamford Bridge outfit, despite their lack of European football. Caicedo even stayed in London last night in preparation of finalising a move to Chelsea and joining the Blues in their training session at Stamford Bridge today, according to The Secret Scout.

However, Brighton set a deadline of midnight on Thursday evening and were prepared to accept whichever club had bid the highest.

Chelsea lodged a €116m (£100m) offer for Caicedo, but that was blown out of the water by Liverpool’s €127m (£110m) bid, which was swiftly accepted by Brighton.

Now, Klopp’s side face a race against time to complete Caicedo’s medical, finalise the deal with Brighton and register him in time to play against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

Of course, Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, 13 August for their opening game of the Premier League season and Klopp will be desperate for Caicedo to be involved against the club who’ve spent all summer trying to sign him.

When must Liverpool register Caicedo to face Chelsea?

Liverpool must register Caicedo by midday today (Friday, 11 August) in order for him to be available for selection against Chelsea.

As per Premier League rules for weekend games, players must be registered before noon on Friday to be selected for that gameweek.

As a result, Liverpool must act quickly if they want Caicedo in their first-team squad in west London on Sunday. It’s likely that Caicedo will not be registered in time - given they must finalise the deal with Brighton, sign the paperwork and complete this medical - and if Liverpool do miss the deadline, his debut may come at Anfield against Bournemouth on Saturday, 19 August.
