Manchester United are talking with Lyon over a move for veteran left-back Nicolas Tagliafico, while FootballTransfers can reveal that the player is pushing for a move to Old Trafford.

We understand that the Argentine is the preferred option for Erik ten Hag, who is hoping that Man Utd conclude a deal with the Ligue 1 outfit, following the long-term injury to Luke Shaw.

Sources in France have told us that Lyon would rather keep Tagliafico, who is signed until 2025, but the club are already discussing a possible move with the Premier League giants. It's our understanding that the 30-year-old wants a reunion with his former coach, Ten Hag, and has asked his current side to facilitate a sale or loan.

Man Utd, who have to sell to buy at this stage, would rather have a loan deal, while Lyon want to attach an obligation-to-buy. The player is represented by CAA Base who have great ties to the Premier League. Personal terms would not be a problem.

Man Utd and Hojbjerg

It comes after our story that Man Utd have enquired over a move for Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Spurs are not interested in sending the 28-year-old out on loan and will ask for £35m.

The Dutchman is in the market for another No.6 to come in and play alongside Casemiro. Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina is the coach’s number one target for the position, but the club have sounded out Spurs over a move for their Danish midfielder, too, we can confirm.

We understand that Spurs will want around a slightly more expensive number than a Premier League rival.

The London side had been in talks with Atletico Madrid over the sale of the 28-year-old. We are told that his current club will not entertain any loan deal.

Man Utd have received a slight boost to their funds following the sale of Fred and Dean Henderson but are still having to sell-to-buy to ensure that their targets are brought in.
