Manchester United have made contact with Chelsea over a potential transfer for Marc Cucurella, with football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano reporting the Red Devils are working on THREE signings.

The Red Devils overcame Nottingham Forest 3-2 on Saturday but had to come from two down to take the points at Old Trafford as their unconvincing start to the season continued.

Manager Erik ten Hag has been beset by problems in the transfer market this summer, with a lack of funds preventing him from signing Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and a central defender, either Jean-Clair Todibo of Nice or Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard.

The Dutchman is set to get creative in the last week of the transfer window, though, having made an approach for Cucurella, Romano states.

“Manchester United made contact with Chelsa to ask about conditions of Marc Cucurella deal on potential loan – no bid or concrete talks yet,” he said on Twitter.

“Man Utd looking for left-back opportunity but not too expensive. There are three candidates on the list. No decision made yet.”

Man Utd are chasing a left-back because Luke Shaw has sustained an injury that will prevent him from playing for several weeks.

Tyrell Malacia is the only other option that Ten Hag has in that area.

Meanwhile, Cucurella could be an ideal signing in this area because he is also capable of covering at centre-back, though he has done so previously in a back three as opposed to the four-man defensive setup that Ten Hag favours.

Will Chelsea sell Cucurella?

Chelsea could potentially be open to a move given that Cucurella is firmly behind Ben Chilwell in the pecking order on the left, although after allowing Lewis Hall to join Newcastle, the Blues might be reticent to loan out their backup player.

Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino is seeking to lighten his squad, though he would not have envisaged doing so to strengthen a potential top-four rival.

Man Utd, Romano adds, are still continuing the chase Amrabat, who is still not training with Fiorentina in a bid to force a move, while they will complete a deal for Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, who arrives as Andre Onana’s backup as Dean Henderson will sign for Crystal Palace.
