Leeds head coach Daniel Farke has warned Chelsea that Tyler Adams is unlikely to be available for at least another month.

The Blues continue to be linked with a move for the USA midfielder, who has been out since March with a hamstring injury – missing Leeds’ first two games of the new season as a result.

But Adams may not have the chance to turn out for the Whites again, anyway, with Chelsea seemingly poised to sign the 24-year-old.

According to football.london, the Blues have activated the former RB Leipzig destroyer’s £20m relegation clause – which became valid as Leeds succumbed to the drop last term.

Even if he does move to Stamford Bridge, though, Adams may not make his debut until after the international break at the beginning of September – as his current boss explained at a press conference on Thursday. Farke told reporters:

“He is still three weeks away from team training. He is in the final stages of rehab, so I don't expect him to be in the mix before the international break.

“He needs a few weeks to be back and if some business happens behind the scenes, that is not my topic anyhow. I will just comment when business is done, and until everything is done and sorted, there is no comment from my side.”

Adams’ award-winning year

Adams made 24 Premier League appearances for Leeds after joining from Leipzig last summer in a €17m deal – before that hamstring injury brought his campaign to a premature end.

He was named U.S. Soccer’s Male Player of the Year, having helped the States to the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup – where they held England to a 0-0 draw in the group stage.
