Chelsea had triggered his £20m release clause, but the transfer did not materialize. Mauricio Pochettino is eager to strengthen his squad before the start of the season, but negotiations have been delayed until the last minute.

Adams is reportedly interested in leaving Leeds, who were relegated to the Championship last season. However, the USA international is now expected to return to Leeds after the two clubs failed to agree on a transfer fee.

A contributing factor could be the situation involving Brighton's Moises Caicedo. Chelsea had been the frontrunners for most of the transfer window, but Liverpool emerged with a record-breaking £111m offer.

During his pre-match press conference before Liverpool's game against Chelsea, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that a deal had been struck between the two clubs for Caicedo, though personal terms were still being negotiated.

The Caicedo situation

While the deal appeared to be nearing completion, Chelsea reentered the picture, and it's believed that they are planning their own bid for the Ecuadorian midfielder. Caicedo has been Chelsea's primary target throughout the window, and it's uncertain which direction he will ultimately choose.

Chelsea made multiple offers for Caicedo, but Brighton remained firm in their valuation of £100m. It now seems likely that they will receive even more than their high asking price with Liverpool entering the competition.

Meanwhile, Brighton has expressed interest in Adams, and there's a strong possibility that the former Bundesliga player will make a move to the Seagulls.
