Forgotten Chelsea defender Malang Sarr is on his way out, according to French media.

This comes after Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino made a hilarious and embarrassing gaffe during his press conference following Chelsea's first victory of the season, a 3-0 over promoted Luton Town.

Asked about the futures of Sarr and goalkeeper Jamie Cumming, Pochettino was caught cold and appeared not to know the pair - despite playing the latter against Wrexham in pre-season!

Sarr spent last season on loan at Monaco in a bid to get minutes seeing as though he has barely featured for Chelsea since his move from Nice in 2020. The left-sided centre-back featured in fewer than 20 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, however, and it is clear that he does not have a future at Chelsea.

At 24 years of age, the former French national team hopeful is at the peak of his powers and he has some Premier League suitors.

Fulham and Forest keen

That is at least according to Footmercato, which claims that Chelsea are set to release Malang Sarr before Friday's transfer deadline - the Frenchman initially joined on a Bosman transfer, so letting him walk for free seems to make sense for everyone involved.

Among the clubs keen on snapping up the defender are Fulham and, unsurprisingly, Nottingham Forest, who are once again seemingly trying to build an entirely new squad just like last year.

Fulham are keen to replace former Man City man Tosin Adarabioyo, who is reportedly on his way to Monaco. Sarr is seen as a potential option for the London club, but the Frenchman also has other, unnamed suitors according to the above-mentioned report.

The expectation is that Sarr will remain in England and sign for a Premier League side. Despite his lack of game time in recent times, his being a left-footed centre-back makes him attractive given the dearth of players of that particular profile.
