Romano reveals Chelsea face Tottenham hijack threat over £40m attacker

Chelsea are set for a busy final week of the summer transfer window, and if they are to sign Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson, they will have to move quickly, with Fabrizio Romano warning that Tottenham are also interested in the Wales international.
Johnson has emerged as a shock transfer target for the Stamford Bridge club in recent weeks due to a string of offensive injuries in their ranks.
With Christopher Nkunku set to miss out because of injury until Christmas, Chelsea are in the market for a versatile attacker and have targeted the 22-year-old, who Nottingham Forest rate at £40 million, as one option.

Romano reports that Spurs are ready to muscle in on any deal, with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium outfit having yet to replace Harry Kane since he was spectacularly sold to Bayern Munich on the eve of the season.
He took to X, former Twitter, to state: “Tottenham are prepared to approach Nottingham Forest for Brennan Johnson this week. Ange Postecoglou has already approved this potential move.
“Not easy deal as Forest already rejected big proposals but interest in Brennan is growing now.”

Chelsea v Spurs for Johnson
Chelsea have previously shown an absolute refusal to back down over deals under Todd Boehly.
The Blues have spent extravagantly on players such as Mykhailo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia after being drawn into bidding wars and Nottingham Forest will hope that they are similarly bullish on Johnson.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are arguably more desperate for offensive strength, despite a positive start to the season under Postecoglou that continued at the weekend as they defeated Bournemouth 2-0 away from home to send them joint second in the Premier League.
Spurs are typically less willing to spend big on players, with chairman Daniel Levy considered a tight operated at the helm of the club, yet Johnson’s £40m price tag may not prove excessive in the circumstances.
