Manchester United have been dealt a major blow in their attempts to offload Anthony Elanga this summer, with the Sweden international rejecting a move to Everton.

Elanga, 21, is one of the Red Devils’ saleable assets this summer and due to his lack of first-team opportunities, they are keen to fetch a fee for the forward.

However, those hopes have been dented by Elanga himself, who has turned down the chance to join Everton due to the Toffees’ style of play.

According to the Daily Mail, “Everton held direct talks with Elanga but the player has ruled out a move amid concerns over his suitability to Dyche's tactics.”

Elanga is looking for a move away from Old Trafford, but does not want to join Everton - who are the frontrunners for his signature. At the moment, his future remains unknown, with the Swede ruling out his most likely landing spot.

The emergence of Alejandro Garnacho and the purchase of Antony from Ajax meant Elanga was pushed down the pecking order at Old Trafford last year, and he started just five Premier League games all season.

Do Man Utd need to sell?

Erik ten Hag’s side have already spent €116.7 million this summer - on Mason Mount and Andre Onana - but their spending is not set to stop thanks to their pursuit of Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund.

The Danish wonderkid has been valued between €80m to €100m by Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini, and despite personal terms being agreed, United are yet to sort out a fee with Atalanta. As a result, Man Utd may have to sell before they can buy.

Much like Elanga, Harry Maguire has also been linked with an exit, with Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are rumoured to be interested in the England international.

So far, Man Utd have fetched just €1m through player sales this summer - thanks to Zidan Iqbal’s move to FC Utrecht. David de Gea, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe all left on a free transfer.
