EXCLUSIVE: Axel Disasi AGREES personal terms with Newcastle
We are told that the Premier League side approached the player and they got the green light from his camp, based on the understanding that he will receive first-team football next campaign.
The centre-back is after game time and the club have offered assurances to him that he would get regular minutes.
An ever-present for Monaco, he chipped in with three goals and three assists last term. He is ready to take the next step in his career, but he won't settle for playing second fiddle at his new club.
Disasi has emerged as one of Ligue 1's best defenders in recent years. A towering 190 cm (6 ft 3 in) presence, the former Stade Reims man is also very capable with the ball at his feet and positionally versatile, having previously deputised at right-back when needed.
The 25-year-old is a senior French international with four caps under his belt thus far. At the 2022 World Cup, he played the full 90 minutes at right-back as France lost their last, dead-rubber group game to Tunisia 1-0.
Monaco parted with €13 million to land him in 2020 and his stocks have continued to rise since. His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently sits at €20.1m.
Man Utd also interested
Manchester United are also keen on the 25-year-old, but they will only make a move if they are able to offload Harry Maguire this window. The Red Devils defender will reportedly be stripped of the club captaincy and he finds himself on Erik ten Hag's list of players to be sold in the coming weeks.
United have been courting Disasi 'for weeks,' according to Fabrizio Romano, but they have not yet made any official proposals, which has given Newcastle the chance to swoop in.
The expectation is that the defender would cost €40-50m with Monaco said to be eyeing Southampton's Armel Bella-Kotchap as a potential replacement.
