Newcastle’s pursuit of Tino Livramento has hit a stumbling block as the Southampton defender wants game-time.

The 20-year-old has emerged as a target for Eddie Howe but he is unwilling to play as a backup next season, we have been told.

The Newcastle recruitment staff admires Livramento because of his ability to operate on both sides of the pitch, but the terms laid out by the Magpies are not to his liking.

The former Chelsea man is after game-time next season and wants to be used as a first-team regular.

Newcastle were dealt a blow in their pursuit of Dominik Szoboszlai this week. The Hungarian signed for Liverpool after the Premier League outfit met his release clause at RB Leipzig.

Interest remains in Khephren Thuram, but the Nice player verbally agreed to a deal to join the Reds.

Javier Manquillo is set to leave Newcastle, we can reveal. The right-back is set for a move back to Spain, with Getafe and Girona keen.

Despite having a year left on his deal at Newcastle, the club will allow him to depart on a free transfer this summer, in a bid to free up the wage bill.

Tonali set to be announced

Newcastle are set to confirm the addition of Sandro Tonali this week. The Italian will join from AC Milan for a reported €70 million.

“I remember seeing some clips of him before he went to AC Milan. He has excelled and is one of the top midfielders in the world.

“It shows the direction we [Newcastle United] are going in. I’m really looking forward to playing with him.”

The club are after another elite signing before the window shuts, however, while there is a need to bring in cover on the left-side of defence.
