Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney invest in ANOTHER team

Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are among a group of investors that have bought a stake in F1 team Alpine, according to The Independent.

The Hollywood stars completed a surprising takeover of National League side Wrexham in 2020 and have consequently turned the Welsh club into a household name. Thanks to significant investment, which included signing former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster, the Red Dragons were able to return to the Football League in dramatic fashion last season.

Wrexham faced Notts County, with whom they shared top spot, in April and defeated them in a breathtaking 3-2 encounter that saw Foster save a 97th-minute penalty. The two sides had started the day level on 100 points, but Wrexham would move on to win the division and achieve promotion to League Two without having to go through the playoffs.

That clearly wasn't thrilling enough for Reynolds and McElhenny, however, and they are now set to invest in another team.

RedBird back Alpine

Renault, parent company of F1's Alpine, have announced that AC Milan owners RedBird Capital Partners have purchased a 24 per cent stake in the team. Reynolds and McElhenney are part of the €200 million (£171m) deal, as is Bournemouth minority owner and fellow Hollywood star Michael B. Jordan.

Besides owning AC Milan and Ligue 1 side Toulouse, RedBird also have stakes in Liverpool and the Boston Red Sox via Fenway Sports Group.

Alpine boss Laurent Rossi welcomes this fresh wave of investment: "This association is an important step to enhance our performance at all levels."

Rebranded two years ago and based in Britain, the Renault team finished fourth in the constructors' championship last term and they will look to build on that with new funds. Alpine are sitting fifth in the standings this term, behind Red Bull, Mercedes, Aston Martin and Ferrari.
