Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is “hurrying” to find a replacement for goalkeeper David de Gea, according to reports.

De Gea is out of contract at the end of June and while Man Utd’s latest update on the player indicated that they are still fighting to reach an agreement over a new deal with the 12-year veteran of the club, the longer the current situation drags, the likelier it looks that the former Atletico Madrid man will be on the move.

This provides Ten Hag with an unwanted headache this summer given he has numerous positions that need upgrading, but the former Ajax boss is ready to undertake the challenge. And he is driving a move for one of his former players in Amsterdam.

According to Calciomercato, Man Utd are “hurrying” to complete a deal for Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana, with the first official contact between the clubs having taken place.

Chelsea are also credited with an interest in Onana, with the Cameroon international’s links to Man Utd first re-emerging weeks ago. The Red Devils had previously been linked with the former Ajax goalkeeper last summer.

Calciomercato reports that the deal is in its very early stages but that Onana’s agent travelled to Manchester on Thursday to open talks over a deal.

Inter want €55 million for a player who arrived last summer as a free agent but has been described as a “phenomenon” by Calciomercato.

It adds that the deal “could catch fire at any moment”, with Man Utd having decided to dump De Gea.

A complicating factor remains Man Utd’s takeover, which has so far prevented Ten Hag from making a single summer signing, with some sources suggesting that the Red Devils will not have any money to spend until a resolution to the deal is found.

With De Gea on the brink of leaving, this will only increase Ten Hag’s frustration at the situation, particularly if Onana makes himself available.
