Will Man Utd respond? Spurs reject MONSTER Harry Kane bid

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly knocked back Bayern Munich's bid of €70 million plus add-ons for Harry Kane, and Manchester United could to re-enter the race for the England captain.

Kane had been United's top transfer target since at least summer when Erik ten Hag took charge of the club and was left unimpressed by Cristiano Ronaldo's attitude, the Portuguese having since left in a big-money move to Al-Nassr.

The Red Devils were expected to lodge a bid ahead of this summer's transfer window, but two things have stopped them: the ongoing takeover saga at Old Trafford and the fact that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is a notoriously difficult negotiator.

Bayern have made a bid, meanwhile, seeking a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, and whilst it was knocked back, it could still prove instructive as to Kane's perceived market value.

Kane came close to joining Manchester City two years ago, but they cooled on the deal with Levy demanding £150m for the player in light of Jack Grealish's £100m move to the Etihad from Aston Villa.

They subsequently picked up Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund for €60m, and he hit 36 goals in his first Premier League campaign - six more than Kane, whose haul would have won him the Golden Boot for each of the last four seasons if not for the big Norwegian.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, United remain cautious about entering negotiations with Spurs for their captain and top scorer, and are focusing on other targets such as Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund.

But with the Serie A sides reportedly demanding a club record fee for their young Dane - who has drawn comparisons with Haaland - there could be currency in sticking to the Kane idea.

It might take £100m to prise him away from Tottenham. Kane is 30 in July and only has one year left on his contract, but there is a premium to pay for a player proven in the Premier League, and one who would be joining a rival.
